NEWS RELEASE:

Women’s health will take center stage in a Steward Health Care exposition Sept. 12 that will feature local physician specialists from across the healthcare spectrum, including heart disease, diabetes, robotic surgery, cancer care and gynecology. Free health screenings, skin damage analysis, and blood pressure reading will be provided.

Mary Richardson, Steward Health Care’s community liaison, and formerly of “Chronicle,” will be the evening’s host. The event will include free health screenings and talks on robotic assisted surgery for women’s health as well as other featured presentations. More than 15 physicians from Carney Hospital, Good SamaritanMedical Center, Norwood Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Quincy Medical Center will participate in the programs.

“With all the advancements in health care at our community hospitals, many women may not realize the vast resources they have in their own backyards to take care of their health,” Richardson said. “Often times women are so busy working and taking care of their families and loved ones they tend to put others’ needs before their own. This is a chance for them to do something for themselves and an opportunity to meet their doctors, some of whom might even be their neighbors, and to learn more about the world class care they can find in the communities where they live.”

Featured presentations will include:

-- 5:30 p.m. Robotic Assisted Surgery for Women’s Health and a da Vinci robot demonstration, with Dr. Soheil Hanjani, chief of Ob/GYN, Good Samaritan Medical Center and Dr. Michael Zinaman, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Vice President of Women’s Services for Steward Healthcare

-- 6:15 p.m. Treatment of Female Urinary Incontinence, by Dr. Marina Rabin gynecologist, Carney Hospital

-- 7 p.m. Sinus Infection and Facial Pain: Causes, Prevention and Treatment, by Dr. Peter Catalano, Chief of Otolaryngology for St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Vice President of Surgical Services for Steward Health Care.

Food will be provided and attendees will receive giveaways and have the opportunity to win prizes in a drawing.

Physicians from Norwood Hospital who will participate include: Carol Vasconcellos, chief of Hematology and Oncology at the hospital’s Cancer Center in Foxboro and Courtney Dawson, orthopedic surgeon, with special interests in women’s sports medicine, treatment of early knee and shoulder arthritis, and shoulder and knee arthroscopy.

“This is a unique event that will provide important health information to women of all ages,” said Dr. Carol Vasconcellos. “We hope area women will take time out of their day to attend, and come and learn about new technologies and healthcare advancements that can benefit them.”

The expo will be held Sept. 12 from 5-8 p.m. at Lombardo’s, 6 Billings St., Randolph, MA.
Anyone interested in attending should call to register at 1-800-488-5959 or visit www.steward.org/womensevent.
