Norwood’s newest Subway sandwich shop is set to open in the coming weeks, after selectmen approved a license for Chitra Sharma, who already owns a Subway with her husband in a neighboring town.

Sharma told selectmen that the new store, at the former D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches shop at 36 Vanderbilt Ave., was in a perfect place for her to expand.

“(D’Angelo's) was very successful there and we hope we can come in and be a successful store as well,” she said.

The Norwood D’Angelo's location was closed earlier this year after its corporate office restructured and moved some of the stores.

Selectmen had few questions for Sharma, who will be leasing the building from its owners, but added that they foresee the location becoming a “destination for people looking for food.”

The only other Subway in Norwood is located on Lennox Street.

“It’s an excellent location in a very high-traffic area with great exposure,” Chairman Mike Lyons said. “Congratulations and welcome to Norwood.”
