The Peabody Police Department has announced that trick-or-treating will take place Monday, Oct. 31. Typically the hours of trick-or-treating are from 6-8 p.m. in Peabody, according to Officer Mario Alves.

Police officers have made several visits to the pre-schools and elementary schools offering children a safety presentation geared toward trick-or-treating.

Alves  uses the phrase “be seen on Halloween” to ensure that children are visible to traffic. He suggests that trick-or-treaters choose a bright colored costume, someone in the group carries a flashlight, and even encourages attaching glow sticks to costumes. He asks everyone to stay on the sidewalk and to use crosswalks when available.

He stressed the importance of safety in numbers, as well as parents accompanying their children while trick-or-treating. He told children in his presentation that if they are ever lost to make sure they stay in a well-lit area and don’t hide. He also asks parents to inspect all candy before letting children eat it.

The Peabody Police Department will have extra officers on duty to make sure this is a safe Halloween for everyone, Alves said.

The following Halloween events are happening in Peabody over the weekend:
