Foreclosures in Peabody last month remained on the same level as September of last year, but year-to-date foreclosures are down more than 26 percent over the same time last year, according to data released by the Warren Group.
Peabody has seen 28 homes foreclosed over the first nine months of this year, according to the Warren Group, a New England real estate tracker, down from 38 the same time last year, while completed foreclosures are up by 3.5 percent statewide.
According to the Warren Group, foreclosure petitions statewide, which mark the start of the foreclosure process, hit the lowest mark for any month since May of 2011. Peabody is one of the communities that benefitted, with only five foreclosure petitions filed last month, compared to 11 in September of last year.
But for the year, petitions are up by more than 42 percent in Massachusetts, a trend reflected in Peabody by an increase in petitions from 54 in the first nine months of last year, to 96 so far this year.
Foreclosure auctions in Peabody are down slightly so far this year - two less than last year over the same time for a total of 101 - and showed a year-over-year dip of more than 53 percent last month, from 13 in September of 2011, to six last month.
