The Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce announced on Wednesday that state Senator-elect Joan Lovely (D-Salem) will be the keynote speaker at the chamber's 81st Annual Dinner and Ankeles Award Ceremony.

Lovely, the former president of the Salem City Council, defeated Republican challenger Richard Jolitz, of Beverly, on Tuesday for the Second Essex Senate seat left vacant by Fred Berry, who is retiring when his current term expires after representing the district - which covers Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Danvers, and Topsfield - since 1983.

She will speak to guests at the November 28 event at Spinelli's in Lynnfield, which will serve as a time for celebration, networking and an opportunity to recognize one chamber member who exemplifies the act of giving back to the community with the Harry Ankeles Community Service Award. This year's recipient is Tom Gould, a Peabody city councilor and owner of Treadwell's Ice Cream.

Gould was selected as the Ankeles Award recipient back in September, with chamber President and CEO Deanne Healey citing his work to start the Challenger baseball and basketball programs for special needs kids, as well as his donation of magazine subscriptions to needy students in Salem, and the monthly ice cream socials he sponsors for cancer patients and their families at Massachusetts General Hospital in Danvers.

The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, with dinner and award presentations following at 6:15. Tickets are $60 and must be purchased in advance. For more information and to obtain tickets call the Peabody Are Chamber of Commerce at 978-531-0384.
