The Peabody Health Department will be offering free flu shots at the Comunidade de Cristo Church at 67 Tremont Street from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight.

Vaccines will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone 10 years of age or older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

"This is now the fourth consecutive year that our health department has collaborated with the Comunidade de Cristo Church for this important public health initiative," Neia Illingworth, Peabody's public health nurse, said in a statement. "We are grateful for the continued support of the Comunidade de Cristo church and are excited to offer free flu vaccinations to our residents."

The shot provides protection against Influenza A/H1N1 influenza, as well as Influenza A/H3N2 and Influenza B.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated each year as early as September to prevent the seasonal flu.

"It is not too late to get your flu vaccine and we encourage everyone to get vaccinated in order to help keep you and your family healthy this season," Illingworth said.
