A 50-year-old Danvers man is in custody after allegedly assaulting and robbing a female on Endicott Street in Peabody early this morning.
Gregory Hardin, of 18 MacArthur Boulevard, was arrested at around 10:30 a.m. by Peabody police. He faces a single charge of unarmed robbery.
According to detective Michael Crane, police responded to the area of 13 Endicott Street around 12:30 a.m., where the 22-year-old victim told police that she had been assaulted and robbed. She was not seriously injured in the scuffle.
Police say the woman was walking down Endicott street when she was confronted by a man police believe to be Hardin.
"A struggle ensued causing her to fall to the ground and drop her pocketbook," Crane said in a statement. "The suspect fled the area with the victim's purse."
Crane said that officers from Peabody, as well as a state police K-9 unit conducted "an extensive search" of the area at the time, but could not locate a suspect.
An investigation led to police obtaining a warrant for the arrest of Hardin, Crane said.
Hardin was taken into custody without incident at 43 Central Street in Peabody.
