No one signed up for the first session of the Peabody Recreation Department's four-part Adult Wellness Living Lean Workshop so the department has cancelled the session, which was scheduled for tonight.

Registration is still open for the remaining three sessions.

The department has also cancelled a mixed media drawing program that was supposed to start tomorrow because not enough people signed up for the class.

According to Ann Gray, Peabody’s recreation program supervisor, residents don't seem to be aware of what the department offers.

“I do think that it’s a matter of getting the word out,” Gray said. “We try. Obviously we use a lot of social media and we send out press releases, but also there’s a lot of programs out there. There’s a competition for programs. Peabody is a huge city.”

Depending on the class or program, at least four or six participants are needed for it to move forward.

“It’s an ongoing struggle to get the word out there,” Gray said. “New programs are the ones that are harder to get people to try in the winter.”

Gray added that she wants to try the cancelled programs again in the spring.
