Peabody Mayor Edward Bettencourt Jr. has named a city hall staff member as Peabody’s first business liaison.

Julie Rydzewski has worked in the administration of three Peabody mayors in the last 13 years and has also been the city’s grants manager since 2007.

The mayor said that Rydzewski has over six years of experience in community development and a substantial grasp of Peabody’s permitting process - background that will be useful in developing the city’s business community.

“While we interviewed a number of very qualified individuals for the position of business liaison, Julie really stood out,” Bettencourt said in an announcement. “Her credentials are obviously very impressive and her knowledge of the Peabody landscape – both the inner workings of municipal government and of the community at large – is what sets her apart.”

While attending Merrimack College in Andover, Rydzewski held an internship in the office of former Peabody Mayor Peter Torigian. In addition to her role as grants manager, Rydzewski lends her skills to the Board of Health, Licensing Board, and Community Development Authority (CDA).

Rydzewski is also a prolific volunteer with civic boards including the Cultural Council, the Wellness Committee, the Restaurant Week Committee and the Snowshoe Classic 5K Race Committee.

“I am truly honored to be chosen by Mayor Bettencourt for this exciting new position of business liaison,” Rydzewski said in an announcement. “The city of Peabody has so much to offer the business community in terms of a skilled workforce, favorable tax structure, great highway access, and now a dedicated advocate inside City Hall.”
