The city of Peabody is hosting its first ‘Peabody Pride in Motion’ event of 2013, which will entail a volunteer community cleanup.

Attendees will meet on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m.  at City Hall to pick up their cleaning supplies and then fan out to targeted areas throughout Peabody.

The cleanup effort marks the beginning of Mayor Edward Bettencourt’s ‘Peabody Pride in Motion’ initiative, which aims to reignite the citizen participation and community spirit often associated with the tenure of one of Bettencourt’s predecessors, the late Mayor Peter Torigian.

“Many of us who grew up in Peabody remember the deep feelings of pride which came with being part of this unique community,” Bettencourt said in a recent statement.  “As mayor, I am committed to strengthening that sense of Peabody as a special place to live, work, go to school and raise a family.”

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers or work boots for cleaning.  Each volunteer will be given a special commemorative ‘Peabody Pride’ wristband.

Lunch will be served to all volunteers beginning at 12 p.m.
