The City of Peabody is set to kick off its annual summer concert series with a performance highlighting Beantown Swing, according to an announcement from Mayor Edward Bettencourt's office.
The first concert will take place on Sunday July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leather City Common on Lowell Street, which is the same location and time all summer concerts will be held.
The first concert will feature an 18-piece Beantown Swing Orchestra with American Idol finalists John Stevens and Erika Van Pelt, semifinalist, Jen Hirsh, and jazz vocalist Laura Brenner.
Specializing in the performance of vintage Swing Era and Sinatra classics as well as popular and original songs custom arranged for big band, their mission is to bring big band music back into the mainstream for future generations to enjoy.
The Beantown Swing Orchestra is aiming to represent swing music as it really was during the peak of its era.
