An Ohio man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly attempting to kidnap, rape, and murder a Quincy woman.

According to police, officers responded on Granite Street on Saturday at 12:15 a.m. to the report of a woman screaming.

Upon arrival, the female victim approached officers. She was trembling, screaming, and crying while trying to speak, police said.

The victim was having trouble speaking, and couldn’t catch her breath. She was covered in blood as the result of a deep laceration over her right eye, police said.

When she was able to speak, the victim told police that she was exiting the Quincy center MBTA station and was returning home from work. She said she sensed someone walking behind her.

Suddenly, a man ran up from behind her, grabbed her, began choking and punching her in the face and then dragged her to a wooded area. The woman said the man tried to rape her, but she escaped and he ran deeper into the woods.

A K-9 unit along with detectives from the Drug Control Unit established a perimeter and systematically began searching the area. When the dog picked up on a scent, police followed it to the suspect.

According to police, the suspect was flushed out of the woods and apprehended.

The victim was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital.

According to police, Robert Wade Koontz, from Harbor Heights, Ohio, was booked at Quincy Police Department and was held on a no bail status until his arraignment in Quincy District court.

He was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, assault and batter with a dangerous weapon, indecent assault and battery over 14.
