An 80-year old Quincy woman was killed in a car accident Sunday afternoon while trying to cross the street.

The victim, 80-year old Prena Percovic, from Quincy, had stepped off the sidewalk near the intersection of Palmer Street and Sea Street and was struck by a vehicle at about 5:10 p.m., police said.

According to police, the operator of the car had been stopped at a red light at Palmer Street and Sea Street. He took a left on to Sea Street and got into the right lane.

Witnesses in the car behind the suspect’s said the woman looked as if she was trying to hurry across the street, police said.

The car struck Percovic on the hip. She was transported to Boston Medical Center by ambulance, and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Joseph Shuman, 55, from Quincy, was not arrested, but will be summonsed to Quincy District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
