Construction on a 400-meter track at Faxon Field in Quincy is slated to begin this spring, and preliminary site work has already begun.
Crews are removing 20,000 cubic yards of fill used to prepare the site. The work could take over a month, as it includes sifting and screening the fill according to environmental regulations.
Although later work is out to bid, Gale Associates, a Weymouth-based engineering firm, is currently designing the facility. Gale will also monitor construction come spring.
"This facility is going to be a tremendous asset to the community and is part of a great makeover of the entire Coddington Street corridor that includes the new Quincy High School, the track, and a new YMCA,” said Mayor Thomas Koch.
