Man suspected of robbery arrested

A Weymouth man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing a house in Quincy and then fleeing from police.

According to police, witnesses reported at 11:48 p.m. that a man, driving a red Ford Explorer, was looking through a garage window on Malden Street and acting suspiciously.

Police found the suspect driving in the car, and when the suspect spotted police, he took off, police said.

Officers eventually pulled the suspect over on Furnace Brook Parkway. Officers parked their cruisers next to and behind the suspect’s car. When police approached the car, the suspect allegedly tried to back his car up onto the cruiser.

An officer opened the door to the car, at which point the suspect got out of the car and ran down the street.

A police dog on the scene was sent after him. The dog chased the suspect down the on ramp and to the nearby rotary where it bit his leg, police said.

Police apprehended the suspect and searched his car, where they found jewelry, clothing, pliers, and screwdrivers.

Michael Belanger, 44, from Weymouth was subsequently arrested and charged with operating to endanger, attaching plates to a motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, breaking and entering in the daytime, possession of burglarious tools, receiving stolen property, larceny over $250, destruction of property over $250, resisting arrest, and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (the car).

Man sent to hospital in suspected OUI
Police arrested a Rhode Island man on Thursday evening after he allegedly crashed into two cars while driving under the influence.

According to police, several witnesses called in a motor vehicle accident at 6:51 p.m. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Witnesses said that the suspect’s 1997 Volvo sedan was traveling down Newport Avenue when the car jumped the median, hitting a Honda head on. The Volvo continued to strike a Jeep and came to a stop at the retaining wall.

The suspect then proceeded to throw empty beer cans out of the window, police said.

Police had to use an extrication tool to retrieve the suspect from the vehicle. While they were releasing the suspect, police said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect, who had glassy and bloodshot eyes. Police also saw several beer cans and a champagne bottle nearby.

The suspect was transported to Quincy Medical Center for treatment. Later, he told officers that he was at a traffic light when his car tires “flipped out” from under him, causing him to drive over the meridian where he “lightly” struck two cars.

He told police that he had had a couple of beers.

Michael Devlin, 25, from Rhode Island was subsequently charged with OUI alcohol, marked lanes violation, driving to endanger, and an open container violation.
