Quincy Chamber of Commerce will hold their first Taste of Quincy event this week to promote area food vendors.

The event, which will take place on Tuesday from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the outdoor tent and gazebo at the Best Western Adams Inn, will include food samplings from 27 Quincy businesses.

“Quincy has really evolved into a culinary Mecca of sorts, with such diverse and delectable cuisine,” said Donna Mavromates, Vice President of the Quincy Chamber. “The Adams Inn is a great summer venue to pull together many of Quincy’s restaurant league members in one place so that people can sample and enjoy all that the city has to offer.”

According to Maralyn Manning, business development director for the Chamber, the idea to do a tasting event has been in the works for a while. The event features all of the chamber’s member restaurants and food services as a way to promote the business.

“We’re always looking for ways to showcase our membership and this seemed a way to showcase those with a restaurant theme,” Manning said. “We have another division doing health and wellness, so we have a healthy workplace challenge going on at the same time. We segment membership…it’s not unusual for us to take a grouping of our membership and find a way to showcase them.”

Manning expects the event to host approximately 150 people.

Tickets are $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members, which will only cover the cost of food and the price of entertainment.

“There isn’t a big margin. We have entertainment and all kinds of things. It's not a money making project for us,” Manning said.

Manning said the hope is to continue the project for future years, but the Chamber is curious to see first how this year’s event goes.

“We will have to see how successful it is tonight. The healthy workplace challenge started out…and this yr will probably be more successful. When something tends to be in the right direction, we tend to forward this direction ... but we hope this will be part of our annual calendar,” she said.

Participating businesses include Adams Pub, Alba Restaurant, Alba Deli, Babycakes, Bistro Chi, Captain Fishbones, China Pearl, Coffee Break, Craig's Café, Cucina Mia, Fuji, Fratelli's Bakery, Gennaros Eatery, and Ginger Betty's.

Additionally, Gunther Tooties, Hancock's at the Marriott, Kilroy's Pub at the Marriott, Neighborhood Club, O'Brien’s Bakery, Punjab Café, Raffaels Greenside Grille, Sher-A-Punjab, The Stadium Bar & Grill, The Fours, The Lobster Stop, Unchained Pizza, and Villa Rosa will participate in Tuesday’s festivities.
