A Quincy man died in Squantum on Thursday after allegedly hitting his head while on his boat and drowning in the water.
According to police, Patrick Walsh, 72, from Quincy and his friend, a 45-year-old from Quincy, were out lobstering in the waters off of Squantum Thursday afternoon.
The friend went to shore at around 3 p.m., leaving Walsh alone in the boat. According to Quincy police, the friend returned a short while later, couldn’t find Walsh, and called police.
Quincy Police searched the water and found the victim, who appeared to have hit his head and fallen into the water.
Though rescue teams performed CPR on the victim, the man was pronounced dead at Quincy Medical Center approximately 20 minutes later, police said.
According to Quincy Police, no foul play is suspected. “This is purely an accident,” said Quincy Police Captain John Dougan.
The 45-year-old was taken to Quincy Medical Center for shock and possible hypothermia.
