Corey Lust, 19, from Quincy (above) and Michael Zuniga, 24, from California (below) were arrested for allegedly trying to ship themselves drugs.

Two men were arrested by Quincy police after they allegedly tried to ship themselves 14 pounds of marijuana.

According to police, a postal inspector discovered the package and thought it was suspicious.

Police didn't elaborate on why the inspector thought the package was suspicious, but noted that “post office workers have trained experience in narcotics investigation,” said Captain John Dougan.

Because the package was headed to Quincy, Quincy Police were notified. Police said they sent a dog down to the post office, and the dog identified the package as containing a narcotic.

Officers went to set up surveillance at the house while postal workers attempted to deliver the package. When no one answered, officers left an attempted delivery notice.

Officers reported that around 4:30 p.m., two left the home, got into a car, and went to the post office to pick up the package. When the men started driving back, officers stopped the vehicle.

One of the suspects tried to flee, but police caught him. He had $397 and two phones in his possession, police said.

Police confiscated the money, the phones, and the package, which allegedly had 14 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana weighing about one pound each.

Police said the marijuana was hydroponic weed, which typically sells for a higher amount. Police estimated the value of the marijuana at more than $50,000.

Officers received a consent search for the Quincy apartment, and allegedly found numerous marijuana plants in a bedroom closet.

Michael Zuniga, 24, from California, and Corey Lust, 19, from Quincy, were arrested and charged with possession of Class D with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to violate the Controlled Drug Laws, and a School Zone violation.

Lust was additionally charged with manufacturing a Class D substance.
