Quincy police say they have resolved a case of bedbugs that had bitten several officers.

According to Captain John Dougan, several sergeants had bites that resembled bites from fleas. The department called an exterminator, who checked the entire department. The investigation soon uncovered that the culprit had been bedbugs, which in the sergeant’s chair where all the infected officers sit.

Officers removed the chair and released a memo to the department warning of the incident.

“[We] put a memo out saying they had bedbugs and exterminator was there. Anyone who got bit should seek medical attention,” Dougan said.

Dougan said that, according to the exterminator, bedbugs are typically brought into an environment from the outside world, and are not the result of being unclean.
