A Quincy man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly breaking in to a construction site to steal copper wiring.

According to police, the condominiums being built at 135 Crescent Ave. had been broken into several times, so police started patrolling the area.

On Tuesday, an officer was doing a routine check at 1:30 a.m. when he noticed that a sliding glass door was not secure. The officer then called in a police dog.

A second officer and his dog went into the building and found a suspect, who was trying to hide behind a water heater, police said.

Police also discovered two pieces of electrical wire that had been damaged when the suspect allegedly tried to steal copper out of it.

Thomas Haapaoja, 27, from Quincy was charged with breaking and entering to commit a felony, and malicious damage to property.
