MBTA police shut down the Wollaston Station in Quincy for an hour and a half this morning after a police dog alerted officers to a suspicious area.

According to Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority spokesman Joe Pestaturo, the Transit Police dog detected something in the area of a communications box just inside the station entrance at approximately 7 a.m.

“Police used an X-Ray device on the box and did not find anything,” Pestaturo said in an e-mail.

While police investigated the incident, the station was closed and buses were dispatched to shuttle rush hour passengers between North Quincy and Wollaston Stations.

The station reopened at 8:25 a.m.

Quincy Police said they were notified of the incident but didn’t participate in the investigation.
