A Quincy man is in fair condition after crashing his car into a concrete flower box on Granitre Street Sunday night, police said.

According to Quincy police, the man was traveling westbound on Granite Street at approximately 10:36 p.m. on Sunday when he lost control of the car. The car drove on top of the median and hit a huge concrete flower box, sending it 30 feet into the opposite lane.

The car was so severely damaged by the impact that the driver was trapped in the car, and Fire Department personnel had to use hydraulic tools to extricate him.

Police said the driver was the only occupant of the car. They believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The driver was taken to Boston Medical Center with severe lower extremity injuries. He was listed in serious conditions until Wednesday afternoon.

Beau Harizi, 24, from Quincy will be summonsed to court on several charges as a result of the accident, including operating under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger, a marked lanes violation, speeding, and two counts of malicious damage of property after he damaged the city assets as well as a wrought iron fence connected to a church.
