As a way to fight off the winter doldrums, a group of women business owners decided to host a ‘Girls’ Night Out’ event on March 1 with shopping deals, trunk shows, food tastings, and other special deals.
Elizabeth Swanson, owner of Birch Street House & Garden, said some local moms who shop at her store suggested the idea to her.
“It seemed like a fun thing to do,” said Swanson. Several other shop keepers agreed with her. At Swanson’s store, she is holding a jewelry trunk show and offering samples of new skin care products.
Sarida, an artist-run marketplace, is giving away hand-painted champagne flutes to the first 20 women to visit the shop, beginning at 5 p.m., and is unveiling new products.
Minerva’s Owl, a clothing and gift shop, is also having a trunk show featuring hand-dyed clothing. Roslindale photographer Renee Dekona will also be in the shop, offering a $50 photo session which includes a sitting and a photo CD.
Fans of Spanish wines, or those who want to learn more about them, can head to Solera wine shop for a tasting and discounts on selected wines.
In all, 10 shops around the Village are participating. In addition to those listed above, Centre Cuts Salon & Spa, Colorwheel Collection, Dandelions, El Chavo, Joanne Rossman and Marla's Obsession will feature promotions beginning after 5 p.m. and lasting until 8 or 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 1.
If it proves to be a success, the event could turn into an annual event.
