Fifth-graders from Roslindale’s Edward Brooke Charter School got an early look at the Museum of Science’s newest exhibit "Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age" last weekend.

The children were the first public visitors to examine full-scale replicas of massive Ice Age mammals, including Lyuba, a 40,000-year-old baby mammoth discovered by a Siberian reindeer herder in 2007.

The exhibit also features some of the oldest art in existence, huge skulls and tusks, mammoth relatives, and mastodon bones collected by William Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) for President Thomas Jefferson's personal collection.

The exhibit opened to the public on Sunday, October 7 and runs through January 13, 2013.
