Despite the blustery weather, a long-awaited public art piece titled “Traffic,” commissioned back in 2004 for Roslindale, was installed at the traffic island at the intersection of Belgrade Avenue and Corinth and South streets Friday.

Artist George Greenamyer crafted the elevated wind-driven sculpture. To see Greenamyer in action, watch the video Torbert Zwirner filmed on behalf of the Boston Art Commission.

A formal dedication ceremony for “Traffic,” featuring the artist and, officials hope, Mayor Menino, will be scheduled for some time after the New Year.
