A 40-unit, four-story affordable senior housing facility will be built on six vacant lots on Gurney Street near the border of Mission Hill and Roxbury.

The $10.5 million Roxbury Crossing Senior Building project was approved by city redevelopment officials Tuesday evening, according to a release.

Construction will create around 35 jobs and begin in late 2011. The LEED-certifiable project will take about one year to complete, city officials said.

“The concept for the design, massing and use for this project was a result of the multi-year community planning process,” said a release from the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

Mission Hill Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. will lead the development effort.

Six projects in Boston, totaling over $297-million in public and private investment and over 1,000 construction job opportunities, were approved by redevelopment authority board members Tuesday.
