Members of the Mission Hill Pirates youth softball team had a once-in-a-lifetime experience Tuesday evening as they joined Red Sox players at Fenway during the Sox’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Members of the youth team ran out onto the field with players at the beginning of the game and were treated to some prime seats at Fenway for the duration.

“We really hope it’s a memorable experience and a thrill of a lifetime for the kids,” said Adam Grossman, senior vice president of marketing for the Red Sox.

The event was part of the Red Sox's and Hood‘s “Calling All Kids” month, a celebration of Fenway’s 100th anniversary and its young fans.

Throughout the month of June youth players will join Red Sox players at home games. The organization along with Hood will also highlight “Child-Hood Heroes”, youth who have made significant contributions to their communities.

“There are times when you are part of the marketing team you come up with a lot of ideas and not all of them are embraced. But this one has been something where the players have really gotten behind it,” said Grossman. “The players have enjoyed it and it gives you a sense of energy and renewed spirit.”
