One Roxbury resident is making sure his neighborhood isn’t missed when residents talk about the best gardens in the city.

Rodney Singleton, a Cedar Street resident, received the coveted “Golden Trowel” award for his green thumb in the Shade Garden category of the Mayor’s Garden Contest.

The annual contest, now in its 16th year, celebrates residents and organizations working to green their community and create beautiful neighborhood spaces.

A formal awards ceremony will be held for all for the winners Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Public Garden.
