Gibbons Playground in Mission Hil will be soon be getting a face-lift by the city.
A community meeting sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department will be held Monday to lay out the details of the playground's renovation and to gather feedback from residents.
The 4,791-square-foot park, at 23 Delle Ave., was last renovated in 1995. The estimated $275,000 budget for the project will cover the renovation or replacement of the existing play structure, the refurbishing of the exterior fence and gateway element, the rehabilitation of the water spray feature, and the renovation of certain park aspects to bring them up to code.
The project will also include suggestions from residents for possible additions and renovations, the Parks Department said.
Community meetings are expected to wrap up by March and bids for the project should be out by the summer, with construction slated to start in the fall, according to the Parks Department.
The first public meeting on the renovations, three are expected, will be held Monday, Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Tobin Community Center located at 1481 Tremont St.
At Monday’s meeting representatives from the Parks Department are expected to present a site analysis of existing conditions, highlight areas of concern from a maintenance and playground safety perspective, and review areas that are desirable to maintain during renovation.
