State to hold 'Listening Session' on medical marijuana Thursday in Roxbury
As the state grapples with how to regulate medical marijuana, forums have been organized to allow residents to provide input.
There will be three “Listening Sessions” across the state with the Commonwealth’s Department of Public Health in February, with one set in Roxbury.
The Roxbury forum will be held Thurs., Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Roxbury Community College Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
At the forum participants will be allowed three-minutes to make public comments on a variety of issues surrounding medical marijuana including patient eligibility, training for physicians, enforcement of regulations, and the operation of facilities.
“DPH is dedicated to engaging stakeholders and learning from other states’ experiences in order put in place a system that is right for Massachusetts, ensuring both appropriate access and safe and secure communities for our children and families,” read an announcement from DPH about the forums.
In November 2012, voters in Massachusetts approved Question 3, which opened up the doors for medical marijuana in the state.
Although the ballot question became law Jan. 1, the DPH has until May 1, 2013 to issues regulations for the implementation of the law.
Those unable to attend Thursday’s forum can also submit comments by email at MedicalMarijuana@state.ma.us or by mail:
