Mayor Thomas M. Menino recently appointed Mark Pasnik and Ekua Holmes to the Boston Arts Commission.
They will each serve a five-year term on the organization’s board, which oversees public art projects in Boston.
Holmes, a Roxbury-based visual artist, also serves as the community coordinator for sparc! The ArtMobile and has worked with the area non-profit Discover Roxbury in the past. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she was the recipient of the 2013 NAACP Image Award for Arts.
Pasnik, an architect and principal of the firm over, under, also works as an association professor at the Wentworth Institute and is the co-director of the Boston-based gallery pinkcomma. A published author, Pasnik was educated at Cornell University and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Both are expected to bring their own expertise and vision to the city agency, which since 1890 has been charged with approving and establishing new public art on property owned by the city.
