Polls open Tuesday for preliminary municipal election

Residents will head to the polls Tuesday for the preliminary municipal election in Boston.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about where and how to vote, click here.

In addition to the 12 candidates vying to be Boston’s next mayor and the 19 seeking to become the city’s next at-Large City Councilors, there are also a number of candidates campaigning for district City Council seats.

There is no preliminary election for the District 7 city council seat, but Roy Owens is set to take on current sitting councilor Tito Jackson in November. Jamarhl Crawford, a community activist, is also expected to mount a write-in campaign for the seat in Novemeber.

In the preliminary municipal election voters can choose one mayoral candidate, four at-Large candidates, and if applicable one district City Councilor candidate.

The final election, which will include two mayoral candidates and eight at-Large candidates, is set to take place November 5.
