The following is a press release from Salem State College:

Former Salem State President Nancy D. Harrington was honored by her alma mater’s alumni association on Sunday, June 6, with its Distinguished Alumna Award. The award was presented to Dr. Harrington, a Salem resident, at the popular jazz brunch that concluded this year’s alumni weekend festivities.

Harrington, who received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Salem Teachers College, and a doctorate from Boston University, accepted the award before a large contingent of classmates gathered to celebrate their 50th reunion.

Entering the college as a freshman in 1956, Nancy Harrington, except for a brief foray to teach elementary school in West Peabody, remained at Salem State, devoting her life and career to its future, until she retired in 2007. In presenting her its Distinguished Alumna Award, the college’s alumni association noted that she served her alma mater with dedication, commitment and affection, and that her legacy is one of visionary, leader and passionate believer.
