Senator John Kerry this morning took a walking tour with Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll and staff to various sites that are part of the city's redevelopment initiative, for which federal stimulus money was received with Kerry’s help. They visited the MBTA station downtown, where the city is proposing to construct a new train station and parking garage. They also visited the site of the former St. Joseph's Church on Lafayette Street, for which the city two weeks ago received word that $400,000 of federal funding has been earmarked for the Archdiocese of Boston project that proposes a mixed use of affordable housing and retail space.
