MBTA Transit Police last night arrested a Salem man who is accused of exposing himself while riding a Green Line trolley between Longwood and Kenmore stations in Boston.

David J. Bowie, 57, of 14 Beach Ave., Salem was charged with open and gross lewdness, according to Joe Pesaturo, MBTA spokesman.

At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, an unidentified woman reported that Bowie was sitting across from her when she boarded the inbound trolley at Longwood Station on her way to Park Street. During the ride, Bowie, who was wearing shorts, exposed himself for several minutes, according to a police report. Another witness, seated next to the alleged victim, corroborated the event, the report said. The woman and witness, who had exited the train at Kenmore Station, were met by MBTA Transit Police and were able to identify Bowie as he exited the trolley. He was placed under arrest and taken to Transit Police headquarters.

Bowie was arraigned on the charge today in Roxbury District Court. He is due back in court Sept. 27 for a pre-trial hearing.

This is the 20th arrest MBTA Transit Police have made this year for open and gross lewdness as compared to 13 for the same period last year, said Pesaturo.
