A man on a work crew was rushed to the hospital after falling to the pavement from a Federal Street building, an official from the Salem Police Department said.

Police received a call at about 3:06 this afternoon that a man was hurt after falling from the scaffolding at 43 Federal Street, said Salem police Liutenant Scott Englehardt.

"I believe they said he was doing roofing," Englehardt said in a telephone interview at about 5:15 p.m. He was not on duty when the incident occurred, he said.

The man was transported to a hospital from the scene, Englehardt said.

Officials from Occupational Safety and Health Administration came to the scene to investigate the incident, Englehardt said. OSHA officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Englehardt was unaware, at the time, of the man's condition.
