To register your audition, please e-mail info@salemtheatre.com and state your preferred audition group time: Group One: Wednesday, July 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Group Two: Wednesday, July 20 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Group Three: Thursday, July 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Group Four: Thursday, Thursday, July 21 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
About The Woman in Black: The framework of this spine-tingling play is unusual: a lawyer hires an actor to tutor him in recounting to family and friends a story that has long troubled him concerning events that transpired when he attended the funeral of an elderly recluse. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, for she is a specter who haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was accidentally killed. According to legend, anyone who sees her suffers dire consequences. The lawyer has invited some friends to watch as he and the actor recreate the events of that dark and stormy night. A classic of the genre. Roles to be filled from A Woman in Black include 2 Males and 1 Female.
The Lawyer – Young man. 20’s to 30’s. Charming. A storyteller.
The Actor – Older 50’s to 60’s. Plays several roles. Versatile.
The Extra – Female 20’s to 30’s. Non-speaking role.
About An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf: No menu necessary at the world's greatest restaurant, the Café du Grand Boeuf in Paris. Why? Because they have everything. On this hot July night in 1961, the staff awaits the imminent arrival of Victor, the Café's owner and sole patron. But when "Monsieur" returns disheveled and morose, his wish is simple: to die of starvation at his own table. The frantic staff, whose very lives depend on Victor's appetite, try all means to change his mind, but to no avail. Finally, they make a last-ditch plea: Out of respect for their life's work, will he let them prepare one final meal — provided they leave it in the kitchen? Instead they will describe it, course by course, over a series of empty platters. Victor reluctantly consents, and the "feast of adjectives and adverbs" begins… A "comic tragedy in seven courses" celebrating the joys of cooking, sex, bullfighting and the collected works of Ernest Hemingway.
Roles to be filled from An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf:
Victor – 40’s to 50’s. Powerful, pragmatic and wounded.
Claude – 30’s to 40’s. The Headwaiter. Type A, Straight-Man to everyone around him. Unsatisfactorily married to Mimi.
Mimi – 30’s to 40’s. Waitress. Unsatisfactorily married to Claude. Trapped. A dreamer.
Gaston – 30’s to 50’s. Chef. Think a male version of Julia Child who grew up in Southie.
Antoine – 20’s. Busboy/Waiter Trainee. Stutters. Must be able play a hand-held musical instrument, albeit badly. Is the “outsider” of the café crew that gives perspective.
Miss Berger – 40’s to 50’s. Beautiful. Pragmatic. Wounded.
All actors interested in “An Empty Plate….” require strong comic timing.
