Boston Magazine ranks Salem schools 115th in the state
Salem schools ranked 115th out of 135 districts in the state, according to a recent survey by Boston Magazine.
The rankings used standardized test scores over time, class size, per-student spending, graduation rate, sports offerings, and Advanced Placement options.
Many of the top-tier districts follow a traditional pattern: small class sizes, healthy per-pupil spending, a high graduation rate, many sports offered, and options for Advanced Placement courses.
With 4,565 students, Salem's pupil-to-teacher ratio of 11:1 is second best in the state behind Cambridge Rindge and Latin. Salem graduates 79.1 percent of its students, offers 40 sports teams and 13 Advanced Placement courses.
The district also spends $13,867 per student and has half-day kindergarten.
