Salem Farmers’ Market prepares for new winter market
Organizers of the Salem Farmers’ Market in Derby Square are preparing for the kick-off of their new winter market. Starting on Nov. 10, the Salem Winter Farmers’ Market will operate in the Artists’ Row buildings between Front and New Derby streets Thursday’s from 2-6 p.m. from Nov. 10 through Dec. 22, with the exception of Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving week, the market will be open that Tuesday, Nov. 22.
The regular, outdoor market completed its third season on Oct. 20. Located in Derby Square, the outdoor market offers fresh produce and eggs from area farms as well as locally produced items ranging from salad dressing to baked goods and honey. Salem Main Streets, which operates the outdoor market, decided to add a winter market in response to the popularity of the summer market.
The Salem Winter Farmers’ Market will feature some of the summer vendors, as well as other vendors, providing fresh foods using locally grown ingredients, as well as baked goods, crafts, and holiday items. Meanwhile, residents can help support the winter market by attending a fundraising event on Nov. 7 from 5-8 p.m. at 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar, 62 Wharf St. The money raised will go towards the purchase of space heaters and other costs associated with the winter market. Salem Main Streets is a non profit that works to revitalize the city’s downtown.
