AT&T will turn on its 4G LTE network in Salem on Sunday.

According to a press release, the upgrade will bring AT&T customers the benefits of its latest generation of wireless network technology, including faster speeds, faster response time, more efficiency and the option to use six new devises.

“We continue to see demand for mobile broadband skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Salem responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices,” Stephen Krom, vice president and general manager for AT&T New England, said in a statement.

LTE technology is capable of delivering mobile broadband speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G so customers can stream, download, upload and game faster. The technology offers lower latency, or the processing time it takes to move data through a network, such as how long it takes to start downloading a webpage or file.

LTE also uses the wireless spectrum more efficiently than 3G, according to the company, creating more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better network experience.

AT&T will also offers several LTE-compatible devices starting on Nov. 6, including new 4G LTE smartphones.

Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE network in the greater Boston area, including Salem, in December 2010.
