The City Council and the School Committee are holding a joint convention tomorrow, Dec. 19 to fill a School Committee seat that will shortly become vacant. School Committee Kevin R. Carr, Jr., who holds the seat, is resigning effective Dec. 31 because he was elected to the City Council in the Nov. 8 election. Whoever is chosen in the joint convention will be sworn in at the city’s Jan. 2 inauguration ceremony and fill out the remaining two years of Carr’s term, which expires January, 2014.

At least three people have applied for the opening. They are Darek A. Barcikowski, Sean P. O’Brien, and Kenneth A. Sawicki Barcikowski lost a bid for city councilor at large in the last election. O’Brien ran unsuccessfully for School Committee in the election. Sawicki ran unsuccessfully for three offices this year, losing in the preliminary election for councilor at large and School Committee, and in the final election for Ward 6 councilor.  He has lost previous bids for mayor and councilor at large. Tomorrow’smeeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.
