World renowned artist Kenny Scharf helped Salem take another step toward accomplishing Mayor Kim Driscoll's goal of creating a more artistic downtown atmosphere.

After two delays, due to a flat tire on the lift used to hoist Scharf to his canvas and rain on Monday afternoon, Scharf finished transforming the bland facade of the Museum Place Garage facing Brown Street into a vibrant work of art around 2 p.m. on Tuesday before heading for New York.

A group of children from the Boys and Girls Club of Salem as well as community members and city officials were on hand to watch the artist at work. Scharf lended his talents virtually free of charge and extended his stay - he was originally supposed to finish Monday afternoon - to finish the work.
