The following was submitted by Sharon Burke, director of communications for Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation:
Lace up your sneakers, leash up your "best friend" and join us at Salem Common Sunday, June 10, from 1 - 3 p.m. for the Second Annual Fundraising Dog Walk for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation. Fidelco is New England's only Guide Dog School and it has placed more than 1,300 German Shepherd Guide Dogs in North America, in 41 states and five Canadian Provinces.
All proceeds benefit the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc. Walkers and sponsors may register online at www.fidelco.org. This is a rain or shine event.
Salem's Mayor, Kimberley Driscoll, welcomes all walkers and their dogs.
"With more than 4,000 registered dogs within Salem's meager 8 square miles, it is easy to see why it is reportedly the most dog friendly City in the state," she said.
Fidelco's CEO, Eliot D. Russman, is happy to have the walk for the second year in Salem.
"We thank Mayor Driscoll for opening its town and heart to New England's only Guide Dog School," Russman said.
The Second Annual Walk for Fidelco is sponsored by Essex Park, Peabody Glen, and State Street Corporation and is hosted by the Salem Lions Club. The Fidelco Guide Dog Walk will begin and end on historic Salem Common. The Walk trail for this year's event will bring walkers and dogs down Essex Street, through the heart of downtown Salem and past some of the architecture, history and mystique that make Salem a destination city for people from around the world.
The event begins at 1:00 p.m. with music, commercial vendors, Guide Dog and puppy demonstrations, and a Doggie Ball Palooza. Additional events throughout the day include professional nail trimming for dogs, a pet psychic, a dog photo contest, and a self guided tour of the walk trail.
