Police are seeking a suspect in a vicious attack on two people that occurred late Saturday night on Jefferson Avenue in Salem.
According to Salem police spokesman Shane Corcoran, 33-year-old Freedom Weymouth is wanted on multiple charges after allegedly stabbing one of the victims - whose name is being withheld by police - seven times near 351 Jefferson Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The 31-year-old man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. There is no word on his condition at this time.
According to the police report, Weymouth stabbed the first victim before turning on a second victim, whom he punched and kicked.
Corcoran would not say if the three parties are known to each other, but the Salem News reports that the second victim was Weymouth's ex-girlfriend, and that the stabbing victim was escorting the woman to a safe place.
Weymouth - who according to Corcoran has lived at several addresses in the area, but is not listed currently as a Salem resident - is facing charges of armed assault with intent to murder, attempted murder by strangulation, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, stalking, larceny over $250, larceny under $250, eight counts of domestic assault and battery, and seven counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
