The following was taken from the Salem Police Department logs for Wednesday and Thursday. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:
Wednesday, Sept. 26
7:23 p.m. Police responded to a report of possible assault on the basketball court on Leavitt Street. Upon arrival, dispatch related that the caller left the area and no longer wanted to file a report.
10:42 p.m. Police took a walk-in report of a stolen purse. A woman reported that while placing her daughter into a mini-van on Lynde Street she placed her purse on the ground and then drove away. Once she got home, she realized she did not have her purse. She returned to the area and looked on the street, in the YMCA parking lot, and at Ben and Jerry's. In the purse was a cell phone, $20 cash, and other miscellaneous items.
11:45 p.m. Police responded to a possible domestic dispute on Boston Street. On arrival, officers could hear yelling coming from one of the upper floors in the building. Someone could be heard yelling at the T.V. on the third floor. A male party stated that he was singing to Def Leppard in memory of his dead girlfriend. He was told to close his windows and stop singing.
Thursday, Sept. 27
12:12 a.m. Police responded to a report of a purse snatching at Salem Hospital. After a brief investigation, Craig Mannetta was placed under arrest and charged with larceny from a person, and after an investigation at emergency as he was being treated, he was further charged with intimidation of a witness.
8:55 a.m. Police responded to a report of breaking and entering to a motor vehicle on Highland Avenue.
10:58 a.m. Police responded to a report of a hit and run with property damage on Federal Street.
Levon Harewood, of 50 Bismarck Street, Boston, will be charged with shoplifting by asportation of merchandise.
Teodoso Tejeda, of 64 Palmer Street, will be charged with driving with a suspended license, and expired inspection sticker.
Eric Robert Barbeau, of 19 Beacon Street, will be charged with OUI (second offense).
Peterson Desrosiers, of 60 Dow Street, will be charged with driving with a suspended license and one-way street violation.
Craig George Mannetta, of 82 Golden Hills Road, Saugus, will be charged with larceny from a person and intimidation of a witness.
