Broaden your cultural horizons this week with the opening sessions of Italian lessons at the Salem Council on Aging, or take in some drinks and dancing at the Salem Waterfront Hotel.

Coil Popcorn Bowl

Monday, Sept. 10 and 24, 4:15 p.m. at Clay Works Pottery Studio, 53 Mason Street.

Using cookie cutter shapes and coils, make your own one-of-a-kind popcorn bowl. The first week participants will make the project and the second week the participants will glaze the project. After the second week, all pieces will be fired and a pick-up time will be arranged. Cost is $45. Instructed by Kathy Wells.

Beginner Italian Lessons

Monday, Sept. 10 - Monday, Nov. 5, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Salem Council on Aging, 5 Broad Street.

A native speaker will teach practical, everyday Italian and give insight on how to discover the real Italy while safely traveling around it. Classes will focus on conversational modern Italian. Lessons include grammar, engage in role-playing, reading and playing Italian games. Fee is $90 for eight classes (no class on October 8). Intermediate/Advanced Italian Lessons

Tuesday, Sept. 4 - Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Salem Council on Aging, 5 Broad Street.

A native speaker will teach practical, everyday Italian and give insight on how to discover the real Italy while safely traveling around it. Classes will focus on conversational modern Italian. Lessons include grammar, engage in role-playing, reading and playing Italian games. Fee is $90 plus the purchase of a book (about $15). Free Golf Instruction

Wednesday, August 15, 5 - 7 p.m. at Olde Salem Greens (75 Willson Street).

On Wednesdays and Saturdays from mid-May through September, Salem residents can enjoy free golf instruction. Lessons include putting at the practice green and instruction on swing technique. Meet at the practice green. Instructed by Wayne Janien.

Salem Farmers' Market

Every Thursday from June 14 to October 18, from 3 - 7 p.m. at Derby Square.

Friday nights at the Regatta

Friday, Sept. 14, 8 p.m. - Midnight at the Salem Waterfront Hotel.

Join the Regatta every Friday night for a live DJ and dancing from 8 pm to Midnight.
