Step out of line at one of the local watering holes in Salem and you could find yourself banned from 22 of the city's favorite bars and restaurants.
The Salem Chamber of Commerce has announced the fifth year of the "One Strike, You're Out" initiative here in the city. Anyone who is arrested at or served a no trespass order by the police department for a participating restaurant or pub will also be barred from all of the other participating establishments for six months.
"The initiative is a joint effort to ensure all Salem restaurant patrons a positive and pleasant experience," Rinus Oosthoek, executive director of the chamber of commerce, said in a statement. "All participating restaurants agree to abide by a zero tolerance no trespass program."
The zero tolerance initiative comes just two weeks after an ugly incident involving a large number of patrons of Bangkok Paradise on Washington Street.
There will be regular contact and evaluation between participating establishments, the police, and the city's licensing board. Police will provide participating bars and restaurants with "No Trespass" flyers, including photographs of offenders.
