Salem police log, Oct. 17-18

The following was taken from the Salem Police Department logs for Wednesday and Thursday. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:

Wednesday, Oct. 17

4:23 p.m. Police removed a hypodermic needle from the steps of a building on Park Street.

5:08 p.m. Police responded to a report of a possible coyote near the main entrance of 226 North Street.

6:06 p.m. Police responded to a report of a past hit-and-run on Derby Street.

10:04 p.m. Police responded to a report of a party throwing a trash barrel on Essex Street. Peabody Essex Museum security directed officers to a white male wearing a red striped shirt who admitted to throwing the barrel. He was advised to pick up the trash, which he did. Warrant checks were negative and he was advised to leave.

11:01 p.m. Police responded to a report of a possible past attempted burglary at a residence on Aurora Lane.

Thursday, Oct. 18

3:07 a.m. Police responded to a report of a purse snatching on Harbor Street. The reporting party stated that she had her purse taken out of her car while she was in it. Suspect described as a white male, approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall, with brown hair and wearing blue jeans.

8:13 a.m. Police responded to a report of a past hit-and-run at Lafayette and Dow Street.
