Salem police log, Oct. 23-24

The following was taken from the Salem Police Department logs for Tuesday and Wednesday. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:

Tuesday, Oct. 23

3:07 p.m. Police responded to Rainbow Terrace on a report of a male party in a van possibly following children. Police were unable to locate.

4:20 p.m. Police took a report of larceny of veggie oil. A male party came into the station to report that he owns a company in Marblehead that reclaims vegetable oil from restaurants. On October 17, he had two 30-gallon drums of waste vegetable oil stolen by a competitor from the garage area of the Museum Place Mall. Surveillance film caught the act and the matter is being investigated.

4:32 p.m. Police responded to a burglary on Federal Street.

7:36 p.m. Police took a report of larceny from a vehicle on Boardman Street sometime last night.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

12:01 a.m. Police took a report of malicious destruction to motor vehicle. A male party came to the station to report his car had been vandalized. The whole right side had been keyed from back to hood. He stated he had no idea who would do this to his vehicle.

12:04 a.m. Police and fire units responded to a possible outside fire behind the T.J. Maxx on Trader's Way. Found burning were four paper towel rolls with an aerosol can in the middle. The fire was away from the building and doused quickly.

1:47 a.m. Police responded to a report of a possible attempted break to a motor vehicle on Gallows Hill Road. Reporting party stated she heard a car idling outside her home and looked out the window to find someone leaning into her sister's car. She yelled and the person jumped into a dark-colored vehicle and drove away. The sister's vehicle was unlocked.

7:08 a.m. A female party on Gardner Street reported that she found a black male, approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall and medium built, in her garage. The garage has no door, and there are only barrels in it. The party appeared to be sleeping, and left when confronted. Officers could not locate the party in the area.

10:22 a.m. A motor vehicle was stolen from Pope Street sometime overnight, but was recovered prior to being reported as stolen. Recovered in Saugus with body and ignition damage. No witnesses or suspects at this time.

12:50 p.m. A garden hose was reported stolen from a home on Sutton Avenue.
