December is on the horizon, and with it comes all of the festive holiday events that make the North Shore a top destination for holiday activities.

Christmas in Salem begins Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Now in it's 33rd year, the event includes tours of seaside homes and cottages at the Salem Willows, free trolley rides from downtown, wine tastings, a concert, and more.

But that's not the only holiday-themed event to be found around town...here's a snapshot of the rest of the weekend in Salem:

Harbor Sweets Open House

Saturday, Dec. 1, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Harbor Sweets (85 Leavitt Street).

Join Harbor Sweets for refreshments and chocolate samplings.

Hat-Making Workshop at the Peabody Essex Museum

Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Peabody Essex Museum (161 Essex Street).

Design and make your own 100 percent merino wool felt hat with Lesley Hansard and Rebecca Walsh. Enjoy a tour of "Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones" tailored to the perspective of hat-making techniques and history. Cost is $65 for members, and $75 for nonmembers. Christmas Tours at the Gables

All December long during regular hours at the House of the Seven Gables (115 Derby Street).

Explore the maritime, architectural and literary history of the house, and discover Christmas' transformation from a rowdy seasonal celebration to the peaceful family centered traditions we recognize today. Hat Trunk Show at Peabody Essex Museum

Saturday, December 1, 2 - 4 p.m. at Peabody Essex Museum (161 Essex Street).

There are more hats to be found (and bought!) at two trunk shows in the Museum Shop. The designers, Dinah Makowsky and Marie Glavin, have hats on view in conjunction with "Hats: An anthology by Stephen Jones."

A Classic Christmas at the House of Seven Gables

Saturday, December 1, 3 - 6 p.m. at the House of Seven Gables (115 Derby Street).

Surround yourself with the spirit of the season as Christmas scenes from famous works of literature, including "Little Women," "A Christmas Carol" and "A Child's Christmas in Wales" are brought to life for audiences. Craig Lucas' "RECKLESS" at Salem Theatre

Saturday, Dec. 1, 7:30 - 9 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2, 3 - 5 p.m. at Salem Theatre Company (90 Lafayette Street).

Join Rachel on a crazy 10-year journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas in this richly inventive and often startling comedy filled with bizarre characters and events. "CABARET" by John Kander and Fred Ebb

The show surrounds a seedy nightclub in Berlin as the 1920s are drawing to a close. The master of ceremonies promises us a powerful distraction from the outside world. For mature audiences only.
